Dravid hopes for a result in Karachi

Source:  Deccan Herald    Date: January 28, 2006

Indian skipper Rahul Dravid described the pitch at the National Stadium as a 'very good wicket'. A result can be forced by the team which plays better cricket, he said.

After two tame draws, all the focus was on the Karachi wicket. And Rahul Dravid laid all doubts to rest by appreciating the surface at the National Stadium where India and Pakistan will square up for the first time in 17 years.

''This wicket is different from the ones we've had before on this tour. It will be a good pitch to bat on,'' said Dravid.

And yet, just in case people misunderstood his perception of 'good pitch to bat on', he made things pretty clear.

''I never meant that it will be a batting track,'' he reiterated.

''This wicket will have more bounce and will help the bowlers more. A result can be forced by the team that plays good cricket.''

With the final Test set to decide the fate of the series, the Indian captain was quizzed whether this puts his team under more pressure to win, something which he didn't agree to.

''Both teams are under the same pressure. Actually, I won't call it pressure. I would say that both teams are keener, more anxious and more willing to give off their best.'' However, Dravid did admit that his team will take enough confidence from the first two Tests into the final Test.

''We will take heart and we will take confidence from the first two Tests, especially the way we reacted under pressure. We lost both tosses but we responded very well to scores of around 600. It's not easy when you are facing 600 on any wicket. So we will take the confidence into this game. But again, tomorrow is a new day and a new game and we are confident!''

Much like Inzamam-ul-Haq, the Indian captain played down the query about the angry exchanges between the players of two sides.

''I think everything has been blown out of proportion. Nothing much has happened on the field and the players get along pretty well.

Tensions do flare up at times out there in the middle but we need to have control over that.'' The Indian skipper signed off saying that the teams two need to play the game in the spirit of the game.

''The spirit between the sides has been very good in the last two series and we do realize that we need to play in the right spirit.

There are millions of people all over the world watching on television and we need to play the game in the right way and set an example.''
