Performance: In the 1st test at Lord's, Rahul scored 46 and 63 but India crashed to a 170 run
defeat. In the 2nd test, he scored a fine century and helped India draw the match. Rahul hit
another 100 in the 3rd Test. This time his 148 helped India win by an innings and 46 runs. He
was chosen over Tendulkar, who had scored 193, for the 'Man of the Match' award. However,
Rahul's best was yet to come in the final Test. He struck his then career-best 217, which helped
India draw the match. With an aggregate of 602 runs at an average of 100.33, Rahul was the
obvious choice for the 'Man of the Series' award.

Performance: In the 1st test at Brisbane, Rahul scored an unbeaten 43 in the 2nd innings and
helped draw the match. This was followed by his then-career best score of 233 in the 1st innings
of the Adelaide Test. He batted for more than 10 hours and steered India to a historic win after
they were dead and buried at 85-4. In the 2nd innings, his 72* helped India win the game by 4
wkts. Rahul's brilliant performance won him the acclaim of critics and fans all over the world.
Rahul followed up his double hundred with a 49 and 92 in the 3rd Test at Melbourne. In the final
test at Syndey, he again missed out on a 100 when he retired hurt on 91 in the 2nd innings.
Rahul scored a total of 619 runs in the series at an incredible average of 123.80. His
performance was so great that he was chosen over Ricky Ponting, who had scored 706 runs, for
the 'Man of the Series' award.
