Feb 1996: In his 23rd Ranji Trophy match, captained Karnataka for the first time in a match against Tamil Nadu.
April 1997: Completed 1000 Test runs in 14 matches in a game vs. the West Indies.
May 1997: Completed 1000 ODI runs in 35 matches in a game vs. Pakistan. Also scored his first ODI hundred in that match.
Jan 1999: Completed 2000 Test runs in 25 matches in a game vs. New Zealand.
Jan 1999: Completed 2000 ODI runs in 70 matches in a game vs. New Zealand.
Jan 1999: Became only the third Indian to score 100s in both innings of a Test. Scored 190 and 103* in the 3rd Test vs. New Zealand in Hamilton.
May 23 1999: Was involved in a World record partnership for the 3rd wicket with Sachin Tendulkar against Kenya at Bristol. Rahul made 104 not out in the unbeaten 237 run partnership.
May 26 1999: Was involved in the 2nd highest partnership in ODIs: a 318-run partnership with Ganguly vs. SL in the 99 World Cup. Rahul & Sourav became the 1st pair to put up a 300 run partnership in ODIs.
May 1999: Became only the 2nd player after Mark Waugh to score consecutive 100s in a World Cup. Scored 104* vs. Kenya and 145 vs. Sri Lanka respectively.
May 1999: Became the highest run getter in the '99 World Cup with an aggregate of 461 runs at an average of 65.85.
Sep 1999: Completed 3000 ODI runs in 95 matches in a game vs. WI. Scored 103* in the match.
Nov 1999: Was involved in the highest ever partnership in ODIs: a 331 run partnership with Tendulkar for the 2nd wicket vs. NZ.
1999: Became the only Indian Cricketer to feature in the World XI based on performances in the '99 World Cup.
1999: Scored 1000 runs in a calendar year in Tests. Rahul made 1357 runs at an average of 59.
Mar 2000: Completed 4000 ODI runs in 124 matches in a game vs. Pakistan.
Nov 2000: Completed 3000 Test runs in 39 matches in a game vs. Zimbabwe.
2000: Scored his 1st double-hundred in Tests (200* vs. Zimbabwe).
March 2001: Scored 180 while VVS Laxman made 281 in a fifth-wicket stand of 376 in the 2nd Test vs. Australia as India became only the 3rd team in the history of the game to win after following-on!
Aug 2001: Completed 4000 Test runs in 48 matches in a game vs. Australia.
Oct 2001: Completed 5000 ODI runs in 158 matches in a game vs. South Africa.
Aug 2002: Completed 5000 Test runs in 63 matches in a game vs. Sri Lanka.
Nov 2002: Completed 6000 ODI runs in 187 matches in a game vs. the West Indies.
2002: Scored 1000 runs in a calendar year in ODIs. Rahul made 1761 runs at an average of 46.34.
2002: Scored 100* in the 1st Test vs. WI to become only the 4th player in the World to score 100s in 4 consecutive Test innings.
Dec 2003: Made 233 at Adelaide to become only the 2nd Indian after Sunil Gavaskar to score 4 test double-centuries. Also completed 6000 Test runs in just 73 matches.
Dec 2003: His 233 at Adelaide is the 2nd individual highest score by an Indian batsman in Australia.
Dec 2003: Rahul's innings of 233 was, at the time, the highest Test score by an Indian batsman away from home. This record was broken by Tendulkar's 260* in the Final Test of the same series.
2003: Scored 803 runs in the year in Tests at a tremendous average of 100. 37!
2003/2004: Scored 3 Test double-hundreds in 3 consecutive series (222 vs. NZ, 233 vs. Aus and 270 vs. Pak).
Feb 2004: Completed 7000 ODI runs in 223 matches in a final vs. Australia.
Aug 2002: Completed 5000 Test runs in 63 matches in a game vs. Sri Lanka.
Apr 14 2004: Became the third Indian and the 14th batsman in Test history to complete 4,000 runs in 'away' Tests on the 2nd day of the Rawalpindi Test vs. Pakistan. He is the 2nd fastest in the world to complete 4,000 runs in away Tests in terms of innings taken to accomplish the feat.
Apr 15 2004: Scored his career-best 270 in the Rawalpindi Test which helped India win series the 2-1. Rahul became the only Indian to score 5 test double-centuries, breaking Sunil Gavaskar's record of 4 double hundreds.
April 2004: Rahul batted for 740 minutes to make 270 in the Rawalpindi Test. This is the longest innings ever played by an Indian in Test cricket. He now figures twice in the top 10 list of longest individual innings for India, the 2nd being the 233 at Adelaide.
April 2004: His 270 at Rawalpindi is the 3rd highest score by an Indian, after Sehwag's 309 at Multan and VVS Laxman's 281 at Calcutta.
June 2004: Became the 1st cricketer to be chosen for the MTV Youth Icon Award. He defeated famous personalities like Amitabh Bachchan, A R Rehman, and Ratan Tata to win the award.
Nov 2004: Completed 7000 Test runs in 82 matches in the Mumbai Test vs. Australia.
Dec 2004: Became the 1st batsman to score a 100 in all Test playing countries when he scored 160 vs. Bangladesh in the 2nd Test at Chittagong. Also became the 4th player in the world to score a century vs. all Test playing nations.
2004: Scored 1000 runs in a Calendar year and also became the highest run getter in ODIs in 2004 with 1025 runs at an average of 39.42.
March 2005: Scored centuries in both innings of a Test for the 2nd time in his career. Rahul made 110 and 135 in the 2nd Test vs. Pak at Calcutta to help India win by 195 runs.
March 2005: Became the player with the 2nd best average in Test Cricket in the 2nd Test vs. Pak at Calcutta. As of now, Rahul has an average of 58.00, the highest after Bradman's average of 99.94.
April 2005: Completed 8000 ODI runs in 249 matches in the home series vs. Pakistan.
2005: Rahul has 12 centuries on foreign soil. This is the 3rd highest number of 100s an Indian batsman has scored away from home, after Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar.
2005: Rahul has nine 150-plus knocks in Tests, the 3rd highest number of 150-plus knocks an Indian batsman has scored, after Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar.
Oct-Nov 2005: Made captain of the Indian ODI and Test team.
Dec 12 2005: Completed 8000 Test runs in 93 matches in the 2nd Test vs. SL in Delhi. Rahul became only the 3rd Indian after Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar to reach the milestone.
