Rahul was a good student though never a topper. He used to enjoy reading since school days.

Both Rahul and Vijay used to play cricket. They were also more interested in going out and

playing than to sit at home and study. Their mother used to tell them ‘come back and study’.

Rahul would’ve been a company executive like his father had he not been a hit with cricket.

Coming from one of the best schools in Bangalore, Rahul is well read and has excellent

     communication skills.

    He loves chocolates and shakes.

He is an avid reader of books, mostly autobiographies and sports-related subjects. He is also

very well informed on current affairs.

In music, he has a good taste for English pop.

His day starts at 6am with a metabolic run followed by intense meditation for almost 30 minutes.

A lot of his time is spent in the gym as well. He has always been high on the weekly fitness points

system with maximum number of sessions in gym and aerobic work.

He is extremely careful with the calories and is always high on sports nutrition food packets.

Rahul is a non-vegetarian. He loves 'chicken tikka masala'.

He is not a fussy eater. He enjoys anything.

Rahul adored jam as a child and is known as 'Jammy' in his family.

He has a superstition; he always wears his right pad first.

Rahul once said that his worst nightmare is to wake up and forget to play cricket!

He said that in his wildest dream, he would make a century and hang out with friends.

Rahul's complaint is that there is not enough time between games to go sightseeing on tours.

If he could change something about cricket, he would allow more time between games and have

     a World Cup in Tests.

Rahul plans to do 'something related to cricket' after he retires.

He thinks fans are great but they shouldn't invade privacy.

He first scored a century in a school match vs. St. Anthony's at the age of 10.

Besides cricket, Rahul played hockey in school.

The straight drive is one of Rahul's favorite shots.

Rahul has never been dropped or missed a Test due to injury since his debut in 1996. He holds

the record for the longest unbroken streak for consecutive Tests from debut for any player.

He also holds the record for the greatest number of innings since debut before being dismissed

     for a duck.

Steve Waugh once said that the only way to dismiss Rahul was to pray for a mistake and ensure

that he is not provoked by refraining from sledging.

Rahul was the 207th player to represent India in Test Cricket.

He became the 1st Indian batsman to be dismissed in the nineties on Test Debut.

Rahul has missed Test 100s by 10 runs or less nine times. He also missed a double hundred by

10 runs in a game vs. NZ in 1999!

India have never lost a match in which Rahul scored a double-hundred.

Rahul's average in Tests away from home is an astonishing 64.01 whereas his average at home

is just a shade over 51.

Whenever Rahul stays at a place for more than three or four days, he first empties out his

suitcases and puts his clothes in cupboards. He says it gives him a feeling of being at home.

He doesn't like the nicknames 'Wall' and 'Rock'. He prefers to be called just 'Rahul'.

Samit, the name of Rahul's son means "composed".

Rahul has scored 5 double hundreds in Tests, the highest number by an Indian.
